How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive colleague ruin your day? Unless you're a robot, you are bound to blow your top off. However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly he or she can get back his or her focus on what's important.
Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. If they happen to dump it on you, don't take it personally.
You just smile, wave, wish them well, and moved on. You'll be happier if you did that rather than fight them.
So this was it: 'The Law of the Garbage Truck'.
I started thinking, how often do I let garbage trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the street? It was that day I said, 'I'm not going to do it anymore.' I see garbage trucks everywhere and everyday. I see the load they're carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my taxi driver, I don't make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.
Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know they have to welcome their kids home from school with hugs and kisses. Teachers and parents know that they have to be fully present and at their best for the people they care about.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more garbage trucks pass you by?
Here's my bet. You'll be happier.
So...love the people who treat you right.
Forget about the ones who don't.
Believe that every thing happens for a reason.
If you get a chance, TAKE IT!
If it changes your life, LET IT!
Nobody said it would be easy...
They just promised it would be WORTH IT

been a long while
Quite saddening to see this blog not being updated for so long.Hope everyone is doing good in their lives.
For those who just got enlisted, do well so that you can get the posting that you want, it's still a long way to go.
And for those who are still 1 year away from ORD, ENDURE! LOL!
//
Anyway, here's something to share with all of you (maybe some of you have seen this in my blog before. But just read it again. I think it's worth spending a few minutes to read it)
Nature has something to teach us.
It's telling us, "Not all seeds grow. In life, most seeds never grow".
So if you really want to make something happen, you better try more than once.
This means:
You'll attend 20 interviews to get 1 job. You'll interview 40 people to find 1 good employee. You'll talk to 50 people to sell 1 house, 1 car, 1 insurance policy or 1 business idea.
And you might just meet a hundred acquaintances just to find a true friend.
In a nutshell: Successful people fail more often. But they plant more seeds.
When things are beyond your control, here's something you must NOT DO so as to avoid misery in your life:
You must not decide how you think this world SHOULD be
You must not make rules for how everyone SHOULD behave
Then, when the world doesn't obey your rules, you get angry
That's what miserable people do!
On the other hand, let's say you expect:
Friends SHOULD return favours
People SHOULD appreciate you
Planes SHOULD arrive on time
Everyone SHOULD be honest
Your husband or best friend SHOULD remember your birthday
These expectations may sound reasonable. But often, these things won't happen. So you end up frustrated and disappointed.
There's a better strategy: Demand less, and instead, have preferences! For things that are beyond your control, tell yourself: "I would prefer this, but if that happens, it's OKAY too!"
This is really a change in mindset. It's a shift of attitide and it gives you more peace of mind.
You prefer that people are polite, but when they are rude, it doesn't ruin your day.
You prefer sunshine, but when it rains, it's okay too!
To become happier, we either need to:
a) Change the world
b) Change our thinking
Of course, it's easier to change our thinking.
It's not the problem that is the issue. But rather, it's your attitude attending to the problem that is the problem.
It's not what happens to you that determines your happiness.
It's how you think about what happens to you.
//
Hope all of you will feel better after reading this.
See you guys soon.
Cheers
Vin
